Wiz Khalifa Announced for SBU’s End of the Year Concert

Wiz Khalifa, the joint-loving hip-hop artist leading the current generation of post-Kanye West rappers, is currently set to perform at Stony Brook University’s end-of-the-year concert on April 27. The Undergraduate Student Government, under its event-planning wing, the Student Activities Board, has confirmed a bid contract with Wiz for $85,000 and is in the negotiating stages of finalizing a confirmed contract, according to Special Programming Agency Director Jackie Cowles and USG President Mark Maloof. Opening for Wiz will be R&B artist Miguel Jontel, who is set to perform for $15,000, as well as a currently undisclosed opener of Wiz’s choosing for roughly $1,500. The entire show is projected to cost SAB around $215,000, with $100,000 going to production.

As you know if you saw our announcement yesterday, Think Magazine has merged with The Stony Brook Press. Thinkr will also be transitioning in accordance with these changes - you might have noticed our URL has changed from thinkmag to sbpress. We’re working on changing things like the theme, so be on the lookout for a redesign soon!

We’re excited to maintain a Tumblr presence for the new Press, but we do have one problem: We have no idea what to call this thing. “Pressr” just doesn’t have much of a ring to it. So we’re opening it up to our followers: any ideas?

A firefighter on the scene stated that the fire occurred on the roof of the third floor of ESS and is under control as of 11:50, although firefighters are still visible on the roof of the building. No injuries have been reported.

Ducky Doolittle Loves U.

“So let’s talk about fucking, all right?” Ducky Doolittle said as she stood in front of a crowd of about 200 students on Wednesday night in the SAC Auditorium.

Invited to the Stony Brook University campus for the fifth time by the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Association (LGBTA), Ducky brought with her not only sex toys, but a new program titled Sex on Campus/Love U.

Ducky Doolittle is not only a sex educator and a sexual assault counselor, but both a self-proclaimed “badass” and “awesomesexual” (the only kind of people that she sleeps with are awesome).

She strutted around stage in a black mini-dress and massive stilettos, words like “cock” “twat” and “pussy” dropping multiple times in a minute.

New Center for the Arts, Years in the Making, An Important Test of New Administrative Structure

Seeking to cut back on administrative costs, art departments at Stony Brook University are combining under a new Center for the Arts, which will include the Staller Center’s performance space.

The new center has been under discussion for years, according to the university, but the actual implementation of it could happen very soon.

“Discussions of a Center for the Arts arose out of the Strategic Planning Process in December of 2009 and the plans have yet to be finalized,” said university spokesman James Montalto.

Even so, sources within the art departments say that the new Center for the Arts could be “taking effect this semester.”

Long Island Makes a Case for Funds at SUNY Showcase

The five SUNY campuses on Long Island made an appeal to the governor’s office for funding on Wednesday when a panel led by SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher and the campus presidents hosted the SUNY Showcase in the Wang Center.

Long Island is one of the 10 regions that will be competing for, as Zimpher put it, “millions and millions of dollars” in funding as part of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s regional economic development plan.

Zimpher and the five presidents each spoke on behalf of SUNY and Long Island, although Zimpher plans on holding similar events with SUNY schools in each of the other nine regions.

Nadia Habib's Deportation Stayed by ICE Pending Final Decision

Undocumented Stony Brook University student Nadia Habib’s deportation was deferred Thursday morning to the delight of scores of family, friends and supporters who were rallying outside.

“We haven’t been given a real decision yet,” said Nadia after nearly spending nearly two and a half hours in the Javits Federal Building with her mother, Nazmin Habib, who was also to be deported, their lawyer, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents negotiating the terms of her temporary stay of deportation.

Just before entering the building, Nadia was nervous and unsure of her future. “At this point,” she said, “it would take a miracle.”

Afterwards, she said that the deferral was not the miracle she was looking for. “We still have a lot of waiting and hoping to do,” she said.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who was made aware of the Habibs’ case last week by Stony Brook University administrators, was pleased with the outcome as well.

“I am thrilled that Nadia will be celebrating her 20th birthday tomorrow at home with her family and will be continuing her studies in the only country she’s ever known,” she told Think via email.
